Keeping in touch after this semester

Hey guys,
Since we're all going our different ways this summer (although a couple of us will still be around here), how about we use this blog to keep in touch?? I will check in at least once a month and blog about what I have been up to and then you can comment and let me know how you're doing in your new places. Of course it would be up to you how often you check in or write, but I think it would be good to keep in touch! I will miss all of you after you leave!

Blog 12: Summer Vacation!

We are almost at the end of our semester together - even though there is still a lot of studying to do! What are your plans or goals for this summer? Will you go on a relaxing vacation? Will you work? Will you spend time with family? What are you most looking forward to?

Blog 11: Signs of Spring

Now that spring is FINALLY here in Ohio, describe what you notice has changed since the winter. What do you see going on outside? How does this effect people or you? What kind of activities do you enjoy doing now that the weather is warmer?

Your entry is due by midnight, April 21! Late entries will be accepted through Friday, April 25.

Blog 10: What's funny in your culture?

Tell a joke or a story from your culture that is funny. You may have to explain the humor so those of us who are not from your culture can understand it. You could also describe a funny TV show or movie and why you think it is funny. Everyone has their own sense of humor, and a lot of times this is part of our cultural identity.

This entry will be due midnight Monday, April 14th. No entries accepted after Friday the 18th! Have fun!

Blog 9: A Good Friend

What qualities do you look for in a friend? Describe what you think makes a good friend to you. Do you have any friends that fit these characteristics of a "good" friend? Do you have any friends that sometimes are "bad" friends? How can you judge if someone is a good or bad friend?

Submit your entry by midnight, Monday, April 7th. No entries will be accepted after Friday, April 11th.

Blog 8: Siblings

Do you have siblings (brothers or sisters)? Describe the siblings that you have - what are their names, how old are they, are they similar or different to you, do your parents treat them the same or differently than you? Are you close friends with your siblings, or is your relationship more distant?

If you don't have any siblings, then please describe what it is like to be an only child, and if you wish you had siblings or not.

This entry is due Monday, March 31, by midnight. If you do not post anything by April 4, you will receive a zero.

Blog 7: Spring Break

In this blog entry, describe what you will do for the week we will have off school for Spring Break. Will you travel anywhere? Will you visit friends or family? Will you have fun or will you study?
If you do not have any exciting plans for spring break, you can also write and tell us what you would LIKE to do for spring break if you would be able to.

This entry will not be due until Friday, March 14 by midnight.
No late entries will be accepted! If not done by Friday, you will receive zero credit.

Describe what your perfect day would be like. Who would be in it? Where would you be? What would the weather be like? What would you do?

Entry 4: Favorite Holiday

This Wednesday in the U.S. is Valentine's Day, a romantic holiday when people buy flowers or chocolates for their boyfriend or girlfriend or spouse. For this blog entry, please write about your favorite holiday in your home country. What do you do to celebrate this special day? Do you eat a certain kind of food? Who do you celebrate with? Do we celebrate this holiday in the U.S.?

Entry 3: Favorite Pastime

For your blog entry this week, please write one paragraph about your favorite hobby or pastime. In class on Monday we talked about sports and hobbies that you enjoy such as soccer, dancing, swimming, and taikwondo. You can write about this hobby or a different one. Some ideas to think about: when did you start this hobby? who got you interested in it? how often do you practice it? what do you enjoy about it?

Please remember the three requirements:
- respond to the topic "What is your favorite pastime?"
- write one paragraph - a minimum of 75 words
- submit your entry by midnight February 11

Entry 2: Life in the U.S.

Please write a paragraph in response to the question: How is life different in the U.S. than it is in your home country? Some ideas to consider in your response might be climate/weather, religion, culture, education system, dress, food, communication, entertainment, to name a few.

Your comment should be AT LEAST one full paragraph and a minimum of 75 words (yes, I will check your word count!) To receive full credit (10 points) for your response, you must:

- answer the question "how is life different in the U.S. than in your home country"
- meet the length requirement of 75 words
- post your comment by midnight, February 4th

Entry 1: Advertising

The topic for our first unit is advertising. Describe one commercial that you have seen on TV - it can be a good commerical or a bad commericial. Describe what you like or dislike about it, and why you think it is a good commercial or not. Would you buy what the ad is selling? I'll start!

One commercial that I always enjoy watching on television shows a man drinking his morning coffee in a yellow cup and singing and smiling while the birds fly around him. He is very happy with his life, and everything is going good. Then a tree falls on his car and crushes it. He looks at it and pauses for a second, but then goes back to being happy right away.

I think this is a commerical for insurance. I like it because I think it is funny and the man reminds me of my friend who is always happy, even when bad things happen. I think it is a pretty good commercial, but I am not interested in buying insurance, so it doesn't effect me.
